The
New Media Collaborative 2001-2002 Dia Center for the Arts & Eyebeam with Electronic
Arts Intermix & The Kitchen The dynamism of Chelsea's contemporary art scene is
brimming with resources for young artists in the neighborhood's schools. Chelsea's
major non-profit contemporary arts organizations--Dia Center for the Arts, Eyebeam,
The Kitchen, and Electronic Arts Intermix (EAI) are particularly interested in
providing resources related to new media arts. Therefore the New Media Collaborative
was formed to offer secondary school students of artistic promise with resources
to develop their artistic skills over the course of a one-year program. The program
is driven by the talents of the participating teaching artists, with varied focus
in the new media genre, who share their knowledge and expose the participants
to different digital methods of expression. The New Media Education Collaborative
is a focused extension of the contemporary art and new media projects of each
participating institution. The high school program is spearheaded by coordinators
Dina Weiss, of the Dia center for the arts and Liz Slagus of Eyebeam, Treva Offutt
of The Kitchen, and Rebecca Cleman of EAI.
