Director of Communications
Dia Art Foundation seeks a Director of Communications, based in its New York City office. Reporting to the Director, he/she works closely with the Director and senior staff to ensure that Dia fulfills its mission of commissioning, supporting, and preserving artist’s visions, and enabling projects that might not otherwise exist due to scale, scope or ambition.
The Director of Communications serves as a public face of Dia, and as spokesperson to the media. He/she is responsible for developing, implementing and coordinating Dia’s overall communications strategies through:
- Press & Media Communications: securing programmatic and institutional coverage (including key staff and trustees) and responding to external requests
- Advertising & Marketing: strategic implementation of limited resources
- Social Media: utilizing Facebook, Twitter, FourSquare, and other outlets
- Website: site maintenance and content development
- Programmatic & promotional materials: development & production of ephemera including calendar, brochures, and monthly e-newsletter
- Planning: the Director of Communications will plan and implement an image campaign in tandem with the expansion of Dia’s New York City presence to effectively communicate its institutional structure, mission, and values
- Events: collaborates with Development on major fundraising events and galas
The Director of Communications works closely with the following Dia departments and colleagues: Graphic Designer, Editor, and Digital Media to produce public and promotional materials; Dia:Beacon Managing Director and Visitor Services staff on audience assessment and interaction; and with the Curatorial department on public materials and information related to program. He/she also collaborates with the Director of Development on key fundraising initiatives, including the annual Fall Gala and Spring Benefit, corporate partnerships, and capital campaign.
The position oversees a FT associate, a PT assistant, and departmental interns, and manages Dia’s communications consultants. The ideal candidate is comfortable shifting gears, likes a fast-paced work environment, and is able to attend Dia’s programs and events on a regular basis. He/she has exceptional communication and writing skills, and is interested in design. Interest and knowledge of contemporary art is required, and strong familiarity with the artists in Dia’s collection preferred. Minimum 6 years comparable experience in a cultural context, salary is commensurate with experience.

Dia Art Foundation seeks a Communications Associate. Reporting to the Director of External Affairs,
the candidate will manage media and public communications for Dia:Beacon and Dia:Chelsea, and
serves as a liaison for press inquiries related to Dia’s other sites and programs. With duties
including planning, developing, and executing marketing, advertising and media strategies, this
position will work across the institution and collaborate with staff in curatorial, education,
development, visitor services, and digital media.
Responsibilities include:
- drafting press releases and announcements for Dia programs, exhibitions, and events
- drafting Dia’s monthly e-newsletter and updating Dia’s website
- maintaining an active presence for Dia on Facebook, Twitter and foursquare
- planning programmatic outreach and pitching media
- responding to press and public inquires for information and materials; facilitating photo and
film shoots; coordinating interviews
- maintaining Dia’s press list and press archive
- tracking departmental budget and assisting with budget planning
- crafting and coordinating Dia’s advertising and marketing plan
- assisting with New York City-based public programs
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have at least 3-4 years of experience working in a communications
department at a museum, non-for-profit, or contemporary art gallery. Excellent writing and
interpersonal skills are essential, as is an adept and sophisticated facility with social networking
platforms. Attention to detail and accuracy, as well as an ability to multi-task, are key. Candidates
should have experience with web management systems, and be proficient in Microsoft Office
programs and the Adobe Creative Suite. Familiarity with trends in new media technologies and a
working knowledge of HTML a plus.
This is a full-time position located in Dia’s New York City office that requires some travel between
Manhattan and the Hudson Valley in addition to occasional work in the evenings and on weekends.

Dia Art Foundation’s Curatorial Department seeks a graduate student for a Curatorial Research Internship (volunteer-basis) from January 15 through June 30, 2012. Dia will consider applicants enrolled in a graduate-level art history program, preferably with a focus in contemporary art and methodology, who demonstrate exceptional research and writing skills as well as a strong interest in curatorial practice.
The Curatorial Research Intern will work directly with Dia’s curator and curatorial associate to conduct extensive, in-depth research associated with Dia’s collection, as well as commissioned exhibitions and publications. Primary responsibilities will also include assisting with administrative tasks, as well as maintaining Dia’s library and the department’s archive.
The hours of this unpaid internship are a minimum of 2 days per week, 10am-6pm.

Dia Art Foundation is seeking a part-time intern in the Development department. Responsibilities include:
• Creating and organizing development materials including invitation lists, funder information, images, etc.
• Providing logistical support in planning the Dia:Beacon Spring Benefit.
• Assisting at Dia programs and fundraising events in New York City.
• Helping organize department files and electronic database.
• General administrative tasks, including researching new funding opportunities.
Qualifications
Excellent writing, editing, and communication skills and basic knowledge of contemporary art required. Previous experience within an office environment and knowledge of Microsoft Office necessary. Familiarity with Blackbaud Altru a plus. The ideal candidate for this position would be pursuing an advanced degree in an art history or arts administration program.
This unpaid internship requires a commitment of 2 to 3 full days per week from March through May.

The Dia:Beacon Café seeks a part-time employee to work 9:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., 2 to 3 days a week, Friday through Monday, Sundays required.
Part-time Café Attendant
Duties include: Assist in daily operations, run register, make coffee/espresso drinks, assist visitors, general light food prep and maintain general cleanliness of the café. Collaborate with other front of house departments including Visitor Services and Bookshop as necessary.
Qualified candidates must possess exceptional customer service and communication skills with the ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment. Previous food service, including barista skills, as well as cash handling experience is preferred.
